Most people think more money is the answer. Michael Mojo makes the case that money was never the real problem, and that building wealth comes down to something most people were never taught.
In this episode Michael gets into why wealth has far less to do with income than people assume, and why your internal world quietly decides your financial future more than any pay rise ever will. He's blunt about why chasing money to feel better keeps people stuck.
He walks through the personal framework he uses to build wealth, a handful of specific habits that change the game once they become automatic. There's one in particular that most people get completely backwards, and another almost nobody thinks to do at all.
Michael also gets into the part almost nobody wants to hear, how the people around you shape your financial future, and why a certain mindset in your circle can hold you back no matter how hard you work. He closes on a shift in how you see money and opportunity that changes what you start noticing around you.
If you've ever felt like you work hard and still can't get ahead, this one will change how you think about wealth entirely.
In this episode:
Why money was never actually your problem
How your internal world decides your financial future
The wealth-building habit most people get backwards
The savings habit almost nobody thinks to do
Why chasing money to feel better keeps you stuck
How the people around you quietly shape your wealth
The mindset that keeps people broke without them knowing
The shift in how you see money and opportunity

Allan Czerwinski used to run his business on anger. Yelling, intimidation, a crew walking on eggshells, and he had no idea how much damage it was doing until one moment forced him to see himself the way everyone else did.
Allan is the owner of Mint Electrical Services, and in this episode he's honest with Michael about the version of himself he's not proud of, the frustrated, volatile boss whose behaviour was hurting his team at work and his family at home. He gets into the breaking point that made him realise something had to change, and the confronting moment that became the turning point for everything after it.
They dig into what actually shifted once he changed his approach to leading, why the calm version of him got better results than the forceful one ever did, and how getting clear on what he stood for started pulling in the kind of people he'd always wanted on his team. There's a real lesson in here for anyone who suspects the thing holding their business back might be closer to home than they'd like to admit.
Allan also opens up about the daily habits that keep him steady, the discipline underneath the change, and why he's convinced that everything in his life started improving the moment he did.
If you've ever wondered whether your own leadership is quietly costing you, this conversation will hit close to home.
In this episode:
The version of himself Allan had to confront to grow
The breaking point that forced him to change
The confronting moment that turned everything around
Why calm leadership outperforms force
How clarifying his values started attracting A-grade people
Why he now puts culture ahead of fast growth
The daily habits that keep him steady under pressure
Why life got better the moment he did

Most business owners think scaling comes down to working harder or building more systems. Michael Mojo makes the case that it's neither, and the thing that actually moves the needle is something most people spend their whole careers avoiding.
In this episode Michael gets into why real growth demands a kind of tension most owners instinctively run from, and what quietly happens to your standards and your team when you dodge it. He's blunt about the mistake that keeps small businesses stuck, and why it usually isn't the one owners think they're making.
He digs into the two things he believes actually decide whether a business scales or stalls, and why almost everyone gets one of them wrong without realising. There's a sharp point in here about communication that will make you rethink every difficult conversation you've been having with your team.
Michael also gets into why more systems and more hustle can quietly cap your business rather than grow it, and what needs to change if you want to step out of the day-to-day without the whole thing wobbling. He closes on the one piece of clarity most owners are missing, the thing that separates a business going somewhere from one just staying busy.
If your business feels stuck no matter how hard you push, this one will challenge how you think about growth entirely.
In this episode:
Why scaling isn't what most people think it is
The thing real growth demands that most owners avoid
The mistake that keeps small businesses stuck
The two things that actually decide whether you scale or stall
The communication blind spot costing you your team
Why more systems and more hustle can quietly cap your business
How to step out of the day-to-day without it all wobbling
The piece of clarity most owners are missing

19 min
You can hit every business goal and still feel like your life isn't working. Michael Mojo gets into why that happens, and the one thing most high achievers skip on the way up.
Success means nothing if it quietly costs you your wellbeing, your relationships, or your peace. In this episode Michael digs into why so many driven people end up burnt out or miserable despite doing everything "right," and where that problem actually traces back to. It's not where most people look.
He makes a case for building your life on purpose instead of by default, and there's a shift in here that lands hard for anyone succeeding at work but drifting everywhere else.
Michael also gets into the relationship side most business talk ignores, and the thing that quietly pulls partners apart without either of them noticing. He's blunt about the real obstacle sitting underneath most people's frustration, and it's rarely the one they think it is.
If you've ever felt like you're winning at work and losing everywhere else, this one will stay with you.
In this episode:
Why business success can still leave your life feeling empty
The one thing most high achievers skip on the way up
How to stop living your life by default
The relationship trap most couples never see coming
The real obstacle sitting underneath most people's frustration
Why it all comes back to something most people never set

Peter Savage went from a box factory to running his own finance business, and the thing that turned it around wasn't luck or a lucky break. It was a shift almost anyone stuck in the wrong life can make.
Peter is the founder of Savage Money, and in this episode he's honest with Michael about how unhappy he was before any of it changed, the career he didn't want and the sense that things had to be different. He gets into the decision that kicked everything into motion, and why being decisive, rather than smart or lucky, is what actually moved the needle for him.
They dig into how to learn without drowning in information, why most people consume endlessly and act rarely, and a sharper way to think about what you actually need to know to move forward. There's a genuinely useful reframe in here for anyone who feels like they're always studying and never progressing.
Peter also opens up about money itself, why treating it as something to fear or cling to holds people back, and how he helps business owners get their finances working for them instead of against them. He and Michael get into the environment side of success too, why the people around you quietly set your ceiling, and how proximity to the right people can shortcut years off the journey.
If you're unhappy with where you are and can't see the way out, this conversation shows how quickly it can change once you make the right move.
In this episode:
The decision that took Peter from a box factory to business owner
Why being decisive matters more than being smart or lucky
How to learn without drowning in information
The reframe for anyone who studies constantly but never progresses
How to stop fearing money and start using it as a tool
Why separating personal and business finances changes everything
Why the people around you quietly set your ceiling
How proximity to the right people can shortcut years off your journey

There's a daily habit that quietly does more damage to your mind than most people realise, and almost everyone does it without thinking. Michael Mojo makes the case that it's more corrosive than the things we're actually warned about.
We're told what substances do to the brain. In this episode Michael argues the more dangerous pattern is one nobody flags, a mental habit driven by insecurity that keeps you chasing and never quite feeling like you've arrived. He gets into why it's such a trap, and why no achievement ever seems to switch it off.
He unpacks the cycle underneath it, and the uncomfortable reason it never ends no matter how much you accomplish. He explains what genuine high performance is actually driven by, and why it looks completely different from the version most people are running on.
Michael also gets into why so many high achievers can't rest, why time off turns into guilt or numbing instead of real recovery, and what it takes to actually switch off without feeling like you're falling behind. He's honest about what this pattern quietly does to your relationships, your team, and your enjoyment of the life you're working so hard to build.
If you've ever hit a goal and felt nothing, or you can't shake the sense that you're never quite enough, this conversation will explain why, and what to do about it.
In this episode:
The everyday habit doing quiet damage to your mind
Why no achievement ever makes you feel like enough
The cycle underneath it, and why it never ends
What genuine high performance is actually built on
Why high achievers struggle to rest
How this pattern damages your relationships and team
What it takes to finally break free of it

Ep. 614 - One Smart Move to Hire A Players
Aug 24, 2026
Aug 24, 2026
30 min
Most small business owners hire the wrong way and never realise it. Michael Mojo breaks down one shift that makes hiring A players, and managing them, far simpler than it's ever felt.
The usual approach is to hire for a role and hope for a unicorn who can do a bit of everything. In this episode Michael explains why that instinct quietly sabotages you, and the one change that flips it. It sounds small, but it makes evaluating candidates, managing performance, and knowing whether someone's actually working out dramatically clearer, and most owners have never thought to do it.
He walks through a simple way to work out what you should actually be hiring for, and makes a case about who's really holding the business back that most owners don't want to hear. He's honest about what happens if you don't grow alongside the company as it scales, and why it so often ends with the best people walking and the wrong ones staying.
There's also a practical warning for anyone hiring in Australia, the workplace realities that make replacing staff far harder than owners expect, and how getting one thing right at the start saves you a world of pain later.
If hiring has ever felt like a gamble, or you keep ending up with the wrong people, this one will change how you approach it completely.
In this episode:
The one shift that makes hiring A players far simpler
Why the way most owners hire sets them up to fail
The trap of chasing a "unicorn" who can do everything
A simpler way to work out what you actually need
Who's really holding your business back
What happens to your best people if you don't grow with the company
The Australian hiring realities that catch owners out

Chasing money almost destroyed their business. Rushad Pavri and Shannon Bow nearly lost the whole thing before they worked out that the goal they were chasing was the exact problem, and the same trap is quietly capping owners everywhere.
Rushad and Shannon are the founders of Integral Built, a South Australian cladding company, and in this episode they're honest with Michael about the early crisis that nearly ended it. The high turnover, the dissatisfaction, the sense of being stuck in a cycle they couldn't break. What they did to pull out of it flipped their whole approach, and it's the part most business owners get backwards.
They get into the restructure that saved the company, how getting clear on their values and vision changed everything, and the counterintuitive call they made about who they'd work with that most owners are too scared to make.
Two friends running a business 50/50 usually ends in disaster. Rushad and Shannon explain why theirs is one of the rare ones that works. They also open up about the personal side, the self-awareness that changed how they lead, the habits they had to drop to think clearly, and why they treat themselves as a mirror for the standards of their whole team.
They finish on the challenge keeping them up at night right now, one almost every business in a trade or service industry is feeling, and how they're changing their approach to solve it.
If you've ever felt like the harder you chase growth the worse things get, this conversation will show you a different way through.
In this episode:
Why chasing money quietly sabotages your growth
The reset that turns a struggling business around
The counterintuitive client decision most owners are too scared to make
Why the usual approach to growth works against you
How a 50/50 partnership actually survives
The self-awareness shift that changes how you lead
The habits worth dropping to make clearer decisions
The hiring challenge almost every trade business is facing right now

One wrong person on your team can quietly cost you your best ones. Most owners hold on far too long, and Michael Mojo breaks down what that decision is really costing them.
Keeping an ineffective team member feels like the kinder choice. In this episode Michael makes the case that it's one of the most expensive mistakes an owner can make, because the damage almost never shows up where you're looking for it. Once you see where it actually lands, you can't unsee it.
He uses a team-building analogy most owners will recognise straight away, one that reframes how you should be structuring the people around you and why your strongest players might be quietly wasted right now.
Then he turns it back on the owner, and makes an argument most founders don't want to hear about who the real bottleneck usually is. He's honest about the fear that shows up when you stop doing the work and start leading it, and why you have to change faster than your business does.
He closes on what he calls the most underrated skill in business, the one thing that decides whether you can scale at all. Most owners overlook it completely.
If you've got someone you know you should have let go months ago, this one will make the decision a lot clearer.
In this episode:
The real cost of keeping an ineffective team member
How one wrong hire quietly drives your best people out
The team analogy that reframes how you build a business
Why your strongest people might be wasted right now
Who the real bottleneck in your business usually is
The fear that hits when you stop hustling and start leading
The most underrated skill in scaling a business
How to protect your culture before it's too late

Riley Barker, from Best Solar and Batteries went from a million dollars a year to as much as a million a week. In four years. And when he explains how, it has almost nothing to do with luck or timing.
Most business owners are guessing. They chase growth on gut feel, hope the leads show up, and can't really tell you why one month beats the next. Riley runs his company on something completely different, and it's the thing that took Best Solar and Batteries to one of the largest residential battery installers in South Australia. In this episode he sits down with Michael to unpack how he thinks about scaling, and why he treats the whole business less like a hustle and more like a problem with a solvable answer.
He's honest about what came before the growth too. The early years that nearly buried him, the money habits most owners get wrong, and the uncomfortable realisation about his own role that was quietly capping everything. What he did next is the part worth hearing.
They also get into how Riley hires, and why he deliberately tells people the worst parts of the job before they take it. Why he's willing to walk past talent to protect something he values more. And the personal discipline underneath the whole rise, the kind most people say they'd do but never actually stick to.
If your growth keeps stalling and you can't put your finger on why, this conversation will give you a very different way to look at the entire thing.
In this episode:
How Riley went from $1M a year to as much as $1M a week in four years
Why most owners stay stuck guessing their way to growth
The mindset shift that turns scaling into a solvable equation
The early mistake with money most business owners repeat
The realisation about himself that was capping the whole business
Why he tells new hires the worst parts of the job on purpose
What he hires for instead of skill, and why
The personal discipline that funded a four-year rise

Ep. 609 - Dropping Prices = Dropping Standards
Aug 10, 2026

Every business owner reaches a point where the work stops feeling like the problem. The customers are difficult, the staff aren't stepping up, the margins are thin, and no amount of hustle seems to shift it. Michael Mojo thinks there's a reason for that, and it's hiding somewhere most owners would never think to look.
It comes down to a single idea that runs quietly underneath how you price, how you lead, and who you let stay on your team. Once Michael names it, you start to see it in decisions you've been making for years without noticing, decisions that have been setting the ceiling on your business the whole time.
In this episode Michael gets into why the people around you behave the way they do, what actually happens to a business the moment an owner decides to expect more, and the uncomfortable stretch nobody warns you about on the other side of that decision. There's also a quick audit he wants you to run on yourself, and it starts with a couple of words you probably said out loud today.
Listen once and you'll catch yourself hearing it everywhere, in how you charge, how you lead, and how you talk when no one else is around.
In this episode:
The neediness trap that quietly pulls low-standard customers and staff toward your business
How your pricing strategy secretly signals the standards you'll be living with all year
The real reason business owners feel frustrated with staff, communication, and team performance
Why raising your standards repels certain people, and what that reaction is really telling you
The staff wipeout period most small business owners never see coming when expectations rise
A simple language audit that exposes where you're operating from need instead of standards

Everyone sells business ownership as easy money, but scaling a business and growing a team is far harder than anyone warns you. Ryan Frahm found that out the hard way building his company from the ground up.
Ryan is the founder of Green Connect, a South Australian electrical contracting company he's scaled from scratch, and in this episode he's honest about what that actually took. The years of stress, the debt, the stretch that nearly broke him. He and Michael get into why so many people go into business chasing money or status and stall out, and why a clear long-term vision is the thing that separates the ones who make it from the ones who burn out.
He opens up about the low point that finally pushed him to seek mentorship, and the shift in thinking that changed his trajectory from there. They dig into an idea that reframes how you read your own circumstances, why real growth means being the least experienced person in the room, and why so many founders stay trapped as operators, buried in the work instead of building the company.
Then it gets practical for anyone trying to scale. Why hiring on attitude and values beats hiring on technical skill, what quietly happens to a team with no clear five-year plan, and why the founder's role has to keep evolving or the whole thing hits a ceiling. Ryan and Michael also get into the part most business talk ignores completely: how much a supportive partner matters, and why a relationship needs the same intentional work a business does.
If you've ever romanticised owning a business, or you're grinding through the hard middle of one right now, this conversation will hit home.
In this episode:
The reality of business ownership nobody warns you about
Why chasing money or status is the wrong reason to start
The low point that pushed Ryan to seek mentorship
The "life is a mirror" idea and how it changes your accountability
Why real growth means being the smallest fish in the pond
How to stop being a stuck operator in your own business
Why hiring for attitude beats hiring for skill every time
What happens to a team without a clear five-year vision
Why a supportive partner is an advantage most owners underrate

Bad staff will sink a business faster than almost anything. But what if the reason you can't seem to keep good people, or get the ones you have to lift, runs deeper than the hires themselves?
In this episode Michael Mojo digs into why so many business owners feel trapped by a team that won't perform, and why the usual fixes (better hiring, more rules, tighter management) rarely solve it on their own. He makes a case that shifts how you see the whole problem, and it starts somewhere most owners never think to look.
He gets into the popular "work on your business, not in it" advice and why it quietly backfires, why struggling owners tend to share one specific blind spot, and how culture becomes the real energy running through a company or the thing slowly draining it. He also unpacks why celebrating small wins builds momentum that big distant goals never will.
The conversation then opens up into something bigger: why we started paying people for time instead of value, where that broken idea came from, and what changes when you rebuild a business around output and contribution instead of hours logged. Michael explains why the best performers are drawn to certain leaders and quietly avoid others, and what that says about the kind of team you're currently attracting.
If you've ever blamed your team and wondered why nothing changes, this one will give you a very different place to start.
In this episode:
Why "work on your business, not in it" can quietly work against you
The one blind spot struggling owners tend to share
How your standards ripple through the entire organisation
Why culture is the energy of a business, not a buzzword
The small-wins habit that builds momentum big goals can't
Why paying for time instead of value is a broken model
How to shift a team from money-focused to value-focused
Why top performers are drawn to some leaders and avoid others

Five years ago Heath Shelmerdine's marriage had collapsed and he was in the darkest place of his life. A mutual friend pointed him toward Michael. He almost didn't make the call.
Heath is a South Australian entrepreneur, and in this episode he opens up about the moment everything fell apart and the slow climb back that followed. He was deeply skeptical of coaching at first, questioning why he'd take advice from anyone who hadn't already walked his exact path. He gets into the shift in thinking that finally let him accept help, and why he now sees that resistance as the thing that was quietly holding him back.
From there the conversation moves into how Heath actually runs and scales a business. He talks about leading through action instead of orders, why he stopped hiring on experience alone and started hiring on culture and values, and how he learned to delegate by letting his team fail in small ways while catching them at the moments that count.
Michael and Heath also dig into the uncomfortable stuff around success. Heath admits he used to think Michael's taste for nice cars was a bit much, until he realised that judgement was really about his own insecurity. They get into why high performers keep moving the goalposts, why success and fulfilment are not the same thing, and how you can reinvent yourself at any point once you commit to it fully.
If you've ever felt stuck, skeptical of help, or like you've already missed your window to start again, this conversation will stay with you.
In this episode:
The referral that led Heath to make one of the most important calls of his life
Why he resisted coaching at first, and the shift that finally changed his mind
How business coaching works like elite athletic coaching, in the tiny margins
Why Heath leads through action rather than orders
The hiring change that mattered more than experience or technical skill
How to delegate by letting people fail safely
Why chasing symbols of success can mask insecurity
The difference between success and fulfilment, and why high performers miss it
How to reinvent yourself at any age once you truly commit
